Here is some useful information about St Michael’s Playgroup.
Settling your child in
It is very important to us that your child has a happy introduction to playgroup so we invite you and your child to a visit before he/she starts. You will have an opportunity to meet staff and familiarise yourself with the surroundings. We also encourage you to bring your child to our Mucky Pups sessions where your child can play while you have a cup of tea and a chat with our staff if you wish! You are welcome to stay with your child when they first start to help them to settle in.
What to wear
To encourage your children to do things independently please send them in clothes which they can manage themselves. Trousers, leggings, shorts with elasticated waistbands are better, not jeans, dungarees with belts zips etc as these cannot be undone by little fingers quickly enough and will result in accidents. Tops with sleeves that can be easily pushed up, so that they do not get wet when washing hands.
Coats, mittens and hats for outside play should be named clearly. If Wellington boots are worn an indoor change of shoes should be provided. We encourage you to dress your children in comfortable, easily washable, sensible clothes. Remember playgroup includes messy play, and although aprons are provided paint does get on their clothes sometimes. If this happens immerse in cold water and wash with soap.
If your child’s birthday falls on or near to his/her playgroup morning, you may bring small cakes, biscuits or sweets for the children (approximately 26 per session). We sing Happy Birthday and blow out candles during singing time.
We aim to deal with complaints promptly. If you have any concerns, please contact Mrs Sharon Jackson (Playgroup Leader/Manager), Mrs Julia Paton (Playgroup Deputy), or our Chairperson (Current details on the notice board).
We have a fire drill every half term in accordance with fire regulations. Our assembly point is on Margaret Wix school field. Full drill details can be found on the notice board.
Herts Quality Standard (HQS)
In January 2013 we achieved the Herts Quality Standard award. This is comprises of 8 modules: Leadership, Partnership, Economic Wellbeing, Staying Safe, Enjoy and Achieve, Positive Contribution, Being Healthy and SEND. Each module requires staff, children and parents to reflect on practices at our group and encourages communication and change. Click here for further details.
